On 1 July 2023, Vanuatu was classified as a lower tuberculosis (TB) risk country for visa health screening purposes. This means that temporary visa applicants from Vanuatu including PALM scheme applicants are no longer required to undergo an immigration medical examination unless there is a health history of concern, or special circumstances apply.

The change applies to visa applications lodged on or after 1 July 2023. More information regarding immigration health requirements can be found here.
The Vanuatu Government has introduced a policy that no contract extensions be granted for workers already in Australia, and that ni-Vanuatu workers must return home at the end of their contract. From 1 April 2023, DEWR and the PLF have ceased approving extension requests for ni-Vanuatu workers already in Australia.
